News and information from the Parish Council

HM Queens Platinum Jubilee 2022 / Twinning with Gruson Normandy France.

Bethersden Parish Council has resolved to support the Twinning association with Gruson Normandy France. We have provisional plans to amalgamate the celebrations that were put on hold for VE Day last year [due to Covid-19] with the day of the French attendance on the weekend of HM Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations on 2nd – 5th June 2022. We would welcome support for this venture from the Bethersden community and anyone else who has an interest in it. We hope to meet in June after the Covid lockdown has lifted please contact myself by PM or Tracy Laws 07814657778 k.laws1@btopenworld.com

The initial contact with Gruson:

My name is Zahia Turpin, I am writing on behalf of my husband, Mayor of a small village in the north of France, called “Gruson”. As the new Mayor of his village (1400 inhabitants), my husband would like to propose a twinning between Bethersden and Gruson. We got some information from this website. Our village is very quiet, but very convenient too as it is only 7 min away by car from the closest city where is the underground to reach Lille in 15 min so a very attractive position. We are in the countryside, so in a totally green environment with lots of walking paths, and we host the place called “Carrefour de l’Arbre” well-known in France for the famous cycling tour “Paris-Roubaix”. Our motivation is strong and I’d be happy to receive your feedback on this matter. The main objective is to develop friendly relationships between our citizens, share common values around environment for example, and of course linguistic and cultural exchanges. Looking forward to receiving your feedback, Yours sincerely, Zahia Turpin on behalf of Olivier Turpin Mayor of Gruson
